Galatians 1:6-10 (New King James Version)

Only One Gospel

6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Cross with Fish SymbolSeveral years ago Jim Herrington presented some startling facts:

  • Between 3,500 and 4,000 churches close their doors each year;
  • 62,000 churches are without pastors;and
  • not one county in the entire U.S. has a higher percentage of churched people today than it did a decade ago.

The American Church is in full retreat.This is not a tactical retreat, or a regrouping—it is surrender. We recede; the enemy advances.  The collateral damage is incalculable, as millions of civilians—American citizens—are crushed by the weight of enemy oppression.

Why do we tolerate in the spirit what we would never tolerate in the flesh? Is it time for a counter-offensive?  How can we wait?

Scott,

I think the American church has become insular and naive to its slow death. I fear that, like has occurred for quite some time in Europe and elsewhere, the church in the US will have to lose more life before it wakes up to its need to be reborn.

John,

Thanks for joining in. Insular is an interesting description. I agree.

A slow death, however, is too costly. I think leaders in the Church, who are like minded, must stand and lead.

Apostolic Certainty

All Christian doctrine is found full, complete, and exclusively in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the authoritative writings of the Apostles.

  • The remaining scriptures are primarily descriptive, poetic, or prophetic and establish the need, foundation, and witness for Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
  • The teaching of Christian life application outside of Apostolic Certainty is likely to cause error and confusion.
